Marcos on Trump assassination attempt: ‘We condemn violence’

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has extended his well wishes to former United States President Donald Trump after an assassination attempt during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

“It is with great relief that we receive the news that former President Donald Trump is fine and well after the attempt to assassinate him. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” Marcos wrote on X account (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

“Together with all democracy-loving peoples around the world, we condemn all forms of political violence. The voice of the people must always remain supreme,” he added.

According to media reports, the 78-year-old former president was rushed off stage with blood streaked across his face after the shooting, while the gunman and a bystander were killed and two spectators were critically injured.

US President Joe Biden said the attack was “sick,” adding that “no place in America for this kind of violence.”

Biden is set to face Trump in the election this November.
