Which country would you like to move to? In this season of moves and lease terminations, particularly for student tenants, a British study reveals the most searched-for relocation destinations among people looking to start a new life overseas.
Imagine a landscape of mountain ranges whose peaks are reflected in the crystal-clear waters of picturesque lakes, a welcoming culture and a way of life where everything seems easy to organize. This is what many people think life in Canada will be like.
And they might not be entirely wrong. In the Economist Intelligence Unit’s recently released 2024 Global Livability Index, Canada features twice, with Calgary (5th) and Vancouver (8th) among the top 10 most livable cities in the world.
So it’s hardly surprising to learn that Canada is the world’s most desirable country for people looking to relocate.
According to analysis by the UK-based international removals and shipping firm Shipit, Canada is the country that generates the most relocation searches, based on Google data. In no fewer than 74 countries worldwide, Canada is cited as the number one country to which people would like to relocate.
By comparison, the second most desirable country for relocation — Australia — tops the list for just 20 countries. Reasons for this choice could be language-related, since people in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Ireland are the first to dream of a new life down under.
Europe too holds appeal for international relocation. Spain is the third most-searched country in the world for relocation, ahead of Germany and the UK.
