MANILA, Philippines — A burial jar lid from Iowa, United States of America was repatriated to the Philippines earlier this month, the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) said.

According to the NMP’s Facebook post on Wednesday, the burial lid, which was returned to the country last June 7, was from Brooke’s Point in Palawan, where it was acquired by American donor Donald Thomas in the 1960s.

Thomas donated the lid to the Madison County Historical Society, and in May 2024, the lid was transferred to the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago.

The lid depicts an anthropomorphic figure resembling a face, the NMP said.

The NMP added that the repatriation of the burial lid came after the recent repatriation of the Sally A. von dem Hagen Limestone Burial Jars collection, which came from Kulaman Plateau in South Cotabato, in May.
