DMW: 21 Filipino seafarers rescued from MV Tutor to arrive in PH Monday

MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-one Filipino seafarers rescued from the Houthi-hit merchant ship MV Tutor in the Red Sea will arrive in the country on Monday afternoon, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Sunday.

According to DMW, the Filipino seafarers were received by Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain Anne Jalando-on Louis on Saturday and will be accompanied by DMW Labor Attaché Hector Cruz onboard a flight this evening.

“President [Ferdinand] Marcos [Jr.] ordered on Friday all concerned government agencies to bring the Filipino seafarers to safety, resulting in the successful rescue of the 21 seafarers while one remains missing aboard the vessel,” the agency said in a statement.

“They arrived at around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Port of Manama, Bahrain.  All 21 of them are safe and sound,” it added, citing information from DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac.

The attack near the Yemeni port of Hodeidah caused severe flooding and damage to the engine room, leaving the coal carrier unable to maneuver.
