DA imposes ban on birds, poultry products coming from Michigan state

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) temporarily banned the importation of wild and domesticated birds as well as poultry from Michigan, United States of America, due to bird flu, the department said on Wednesday.

According to a DA memorandum signed on June 7, the importation of  poultry meat, day-old chicks, eggs, and semen was temporarily suspended.

The DA said that the order was aimed to protect local poultry supply from the outbreak of H591 flu happening in Michigan.

“Subsequently, US authorities observed the rapid spread of the virus, prompting the broadening of trade restrictions to safeguard the local poultry population,” the DA said.

Meanwhile, the DA said that noncompliant products will be confiscated, destroyed, returned to their country, or redirected to a third country.
