DFA says Marcos will meet with new leaders of Singapore next week

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to meet with the new president and prime minister of Singapore, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday.

Marcos will be in Singapore from May 30-31 to deliver the keynote address at the International Institute For Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue.

“The President will also meet with the new leadership of the country, of Singapore, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong,” DFA Spokesperson Maria Teresita Daza said in a press conference at the Palace.

“The President, likewise, will have a brief meeting with the former Prime Minister and current Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue,” she added.

It was the former Singaporean premier who invited Marcos to attend the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, according to the DFA.

Marcos is also expected to meet other government and business leaders at the forum, as representatives from 40 countries are anticipated to attend it.
