Marcos to go on back-to-back Singapore and Brunei trips next week

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is headed to Brunei and Singapore for a back-to-back trip, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday.

“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Aranetea-Marcos will be undergoing visits to Brunei Darussalam and Singapore from 28 May, 2024 to 31 May 2024,” DFA Spokesperson Maria Teresita Daza said during a press briefing in Malacañang.

According to Daza, the President will be in Brunei from May 28-29 for a state visit and in Singapore from May 30-31 for the International Institute For Strategic Studies Shangri-La Dialogue.

His visit to the two Southeast Asian countries was upon the invitation of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Brunei and Singapore will be the seventh and eighth countries, respectively, that the Chief Executive will visit this 2024.

His last trip was on April 11, when he went to the United States for a historic trilateral summit with US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.
