MANILA, Philippines — One of the five Filipinos affected by severe turbulence onboard a Singapore Airlines flight suffered a neck fracture and back injuries, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Thursday.
In an advisory, DMW said the Singapore-based overseas Filipino worker will undergo surgery on the evening of May 23 to “address her neck fracture.”
“No word as yet on the treatment or surgery options for her back injuries. Her condition remains sensitive but stable,” said the agency.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom-based Filipina nurse, her two-year-old male infant, as well as her husband are all in “stable condition.”
“The fifth Filipino passenger, a 62-year-old male, was confined in the hospital’s intensive care unit after becoming unconscious. Doctors are monitoring his condition for further evaluation and treatment. A nephew based in Bangkok is assisting him,” said DMW.
According to the agency, Singapore Airlines will shoulder all expenses of the affected passengers.
DMW earlier said the Singapore-bound flight took off from London and encountered what airline officials described as “sudden extreme turbulence” 10 hours into its flight, forcing an emergency landing in Thailand.
