DILG chief vows commitment to peace, just, equitable international order
MANILA, Philippines — Upon securing a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the Philippines is committing to serve its duty toward “peaceful, just and equitable international order,” Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. said on Tuesday.
“Once elected (at the UNSC), we will serve our duty with a deep dedication to a peaceful, just, and equitable international order that is key to the flourishing of each of our nation’s aspirations for our peoples,” said Abalos who is also head of the Philippine delegation, said in a statement.

He also called for a united global front and cooperation, adding that the country would fully commit to the battle against terrorism, extremism, trafficking in persons, and others.
“We believe that a united global front is essential to effectively combat transnational crimes, corruption, and terrorism in all forms and manifestations,” he said.

Article continues after this advertisementCiting data, the DILG chief mentioned under the current administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., a total of P33 billion ($587 million) was seized by authorities, which Abalos claimed was a “700 percent increase from previous years and with minimal loss of life.”
Based on records, the DILG official said that the Philippines was previously elected as a non-permanent member of the UNSC in 1957, 1963, 1980-1981, and 2004-2005.
