MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Monday said it is set to deport another foreign national wanted for fraud in South Korea.
Immigration commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the Korean national as 41-year-old Kwon Hyuckkeun, who was arrested by the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) inside his residence in Quezon City on Thursday, May 2.
“He will thus be deported as soon as we have secured the necessary clearances for his departure. His name was already include[d] in our blacklist, hence he is barred from re-entering the Philippines,” Tansingco said in a statement.

BI-FSU acting chief Rendel Sy said Kwon was arrested amid a warrant of arrest issued against him in April 2019 by the Seobu Branch of the Daegu District Court in South Korea.
Sy said Kwon and his cohorts were charged with fraud after allegedly conspiring to operate a syndicate that utilized voice phishing to defraud.

Most of their victims were South Koreans who were falsely offered low interest on loans in exchange of giving personal credit card information.
The said syndicate is estimated to have earned more than 12 million won, or nearly $9,000.
Apart from being a wanted fugitive, Kwon was also discovered to have been overstaying in the country since November 26, 2018
The BI said Kwon is currently detained at Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting his deportation.
