Chinese national with Interpol record apprehended at Naia

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Saturday that it apprehended a Chinese national who had a record with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for operating illegal online gambling sites.

According to the BI, the Chinese national, whose identity was withheld due to Interpol regulations, was apprehended on April 17 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport while boarding a flight to China.

When immigration personnel verified that the Chinese national had an Interpol record, the BI then notified Chinese authorities of the man’s arrival.

BI-Interpol Acting Chief Jaime Bustamante said that Chinese authorities arrested him when he arrived in Xiamen, China.

“He was arrested upon arrival at the Xiamen airport as Chinese authorities were already informed about his arrival,” Bustamante said.

Apart from operating an illegal gambling website, Chinese authorities said that the Chinese national allegedly also used schemes to swindle website patrons of their money.
