MANILA, Philippines — The number of Filipinos injured following the magnitude 7.2 quake in Taiwan has climbed to 15, based on latest data from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
In its advisory issued Wednesday afternoon, DMW said all Taiwan-based Filipinos who sustained minor injuries had received medical attention and were already discharged from hospital.
“They are recuperating in their respective company dormitories and accommodations. Follow-up consultations and check-ups have been scheduled as well. The Migrant Workers Office in Taipei is monitoring their conditions closely in coordination with their companies as well as medical authorities,” said DMW.
The DMW added that its six-man augmentation team is meeting with Filipino communities and workers’ groups, assuring them of the government’s “full support” following the incident.
Apart from psychosocial support, DMW has also begun the distribution of P30,000 financial assistance and food packs to Filipinos who sustained injuries.
The powerful 7.2-magnitude earthquake that hit Taiwan’s east coast on the morning of April 3 was initially reported with a magnitude of 7.5. Officials said it was the strongest to shake the island in decades.
