MANILA, Philippines— President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the government will expand its partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP).
Marcos said he met with World Food Programme Executive (WFP) Director Cindy McCain at Malacañan Palace to discuss how to eliminate hunger in the Philippines. Joining him in the meeting were Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Social Welfare Secretary Rex Gatchalian.
Marcos: Filipinos also need nutritional value besides food sufficiency
“We’re expanding our partnership with WFP to end hunger and ensure every Filipino family enjoys nutritious food on their table!” Marcos said on his Instagram Monday night.
According to a Facebook post from the President, Marcos said the government will work with the WFP to expand its feeding programs in the country.
“Through expanding School Meals and Farm-to-School projects, alongside the Walang Gutom 2027 program, we are committed to ensuring access to nutritious meals for all,” he said.
The WFP’s website said that there is a Farm-to-School initiative in Barangay Talisawa in Maguindanao since 2022. The said program has local government procure locally sourced ingredients while parents take turns making meals for their kids.
The President has previously proclaimed that eradicating hunger in the Philippines was not enough. He also wanted to ensure that Filipinos had healthy food.
