MANILA, Philippines — No Filipinos have been hurt or killed after a major bridge in the US city of Baltimore, Maryland collapsed.
In a text message on Wednesday, INQUIRER.net sought the Department of Foreign Affairs’ update on the incident, asking if there had been Filipinos affected by the collapsing of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, to which the department answered “none.”
“According to our embassy, none! May the Lord be praised,” said DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega.
The incident transpired on March 26 after the bridge was struck by a cargo ship.

Meanwhile, an Agence France-Presse (AFP) news report on March 27 detailed that six people have been “presumed dead” after the incident.
“Based on the length of time that we’ve gone in this search, the extensive search efforts that we put into it, the water temperature… at this point we do not believe that we’re going to find any of these individuals still alive,” the report reads, quoting US Coast Guard Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath.
