The Bureau of Immigration has filed criminal charges against two of its jail guards in connection with the escape on Christmas Eve of a South Korean detainee wanted for cheating in a casino in his country.
Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said charges of infidelity in the custody of a prisoner had been filed before the Taguig City prosecutor’s office against jail guards Eduardo Dulay and Noel Acedillo.
David placed Dulay, a regular employee, under preventive suspension for 90 days and terminated Acedillo’s services as a BI confidential agent.
The detainee, Kim Tae Dong, escaped from the St. Luke’s Medical Center Global City in Taguig on Dec. 24 where he was confined and guarded by Dulay and Acedillo.
Kim accrued P2.2 million in hospital fees for which the BI is being dunned.
According to lawyer Ma. Antonette Mangrobang, acting intelligence chief, Dulay and Acedillo could face a jail term of six months to six years if convicted.
Mangrobang said that in their explanation, Dulay and Acedillo claimed that Kim disappeared after the Korean enticed them to eat food and drink beers that caused them to fall asleep inside the hospital room. Jerome Aning
