MANILA, Philippines — A Japanese who is a suspect in large-scale theft has been arrested by local authorities in Pasay city, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday.
The suspect, Takayuki Kagoshima, 55, was apprehended by personnel from the BI’s fugitive search unit on March 4 along Roxas Boulevard, Pasay city.
According to the BI, Kagoshima is subject to a warrant of arrest issued by a court in Fukuoka prefecture.
He was charged with theft in violation of Article 235 of the Japanese Penal Code.
Furthermore, he is also an alleged member of the “JP Dragon syndicate” which steals cash cards from their victims by pretending to be police officers.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the foreigner was arrested through a warrant issued pursuant to a summary deportation order that the BI issued in October 2023.
“In view of the fact that he was already ordered deported for being an undesirable alien, he will be sent back to Japan as soon as we have secured the required clearances for his departure,” Tansingco said in a statement.
The BI said Kagoshima is an undocumented alien because his passport was already revoked by the Japanese government.
He was also found out to be overstaying as he has been in the country since November 7, 2022, the bureau added.
Kagoshima’s name was included in the immigration blacklist, prohibiting him from re-entering the Philippines.
The BI said the Japanese fugitive is detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig city while awaiting deportation.
