MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his “heartfelt best wishes” to King Charles III and Queen Camilla following the announcement that the British monarch has cancer.
“The Philippines is with the United Kingdom in praying for the King’s swift and full recovery,” Marcos said on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Friday.
On Monday (United Kingdom time), Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles was diagnosed with cancer and started treatment.
The announcement came a week after the head of the British monarchy was discharged from the hospital for a procedure for benign prostate enlargement.
Buckingham said the cancer was detected through subsequent diagnostic tests after the procedure.

While the type of cancer that the King has was not disclosed, Buckingham has confirmed that it is not prostate cancer, a report from the British Broadcasting Corp. said.
According to the same report, citing Queen Camilla, King Charles is “doing extremely well under the circumstances” since the beginning of his treatment.
He was advised by doctors to postpone public duties, although he would continue to conduct state business and official paperwork.
King Charles was crowned last year following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022.
He became king at the age of 73, making him the oldest monarch ever crowned in British history.
