MANILA, Philippines — The Indonesian government has vowed to look into the case of Mary Jane Veloso after its president met with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., according to Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cheloy Garafil on Thursday.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo departed from Manila on Thursday afternoon following his three-day official visit.

“Yes, with the decision of the Indonesian government to look into the case filed by Mary Jane Veloso in the Philippines,” Garafil said on Viber when asked if Widodo had committed to reexamining Veloso’s case.

Widodo, already on his way out of the Indonesian presidency, said that his country is only waiting on the Philippines.

“In fact, the Indonesian government is waiting for the decision of the Philippine court on the case she filed,” said Garafil.

The Palace had committed to raise Veloso’s case to Widodo during his Manila visit. Veloso was arrested in Indonesia for drug trafficking charges in 2010 and has been on death row ever since.
