PALAWAN, Philippines — Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is ready to help if a new mission similar to the recently-concluded ‘Christmas convoy’ will be launched again in West Philippine Sea (WPS).

PCG Rear Admiral Armand Balilo made the commitment on Tuesday after ‘Atin Ito’ (This is Ours) coalition said it is considering another trip for front liners.

“The PCG is ready to assist them, but this will be done in coordination with the NTF (National Task Force) on the WPS,” Balilo told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

Balilo also said PCG “will always make safety and security of the participants the primary consideration of the next mission.”

Rafaela David, chief convenor of pro-WPS advocates Atin Ito, confirmed to INQUIRER.net on Monday that the group is planning another mission in summer next year.

The mother ship of the convoy ‘TS Kapitan Felix Oca’ left San Fernando port in El Nido town on Saturday morning.

However, it turned back on Saturday afternoon after being shadowed by a China Coast Guard vessel.

Another Philippine boat in the convoy, MV Chowee, which went ahead, was able to enter Lawak island, where it dropped off supplies.

The cargoes will be transferred to BRP Sierra Madre for the troops on board the ship.
