MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said that he will use the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) as a platform to remind nations of their climate change commitments.
Marcos said he is headed to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
“We will use this platform to rally the global community and call upon nations to honor their commitments, particularly in climate financing,” said Marcos in a speech at the Palace.
Marcos was invited by UAE envoys to the COP28 back in June. However, the COP28 would not be the first time he has reminded the international community of its climate change commitments.
The President asked regional leaders to urge developed nations to honor climate change commitments during the 43rd Asean Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia in September.
“We must also take the lead when it comes to the global move and the global aspiration that those most vulnerable communities around the world will somehow be assisted by the developing countries when it comes to these measures to mitigate and to adapt to climate change,” said Marcos.
