MANILA, Philippines — Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss personally offered his condolences to the bereaved family of Filipino nurse Angelyn Aguirre by visiting her wake in Binmanley, Pangasinan, on Sunday.

In a statement, the Israeli Embassy in the Philippines said Aguirre was one of the overseas Filipino workers who died following the surprise attack of the Palestinian militant group Hamas last October 7.

“I heard stories about Angelyn from her family and friends. She was a caring and loving person. May her memory be blessed,” the Israeli Ambassador said.

He was accompanied by Consul Moti Cohen. Both of them expressed their sympathies and assured the victim’s family that the Israeli government would provide benefits and assistance to them.

Aguirre earned the praise of Jerusalem’s deputy mayor, Fleur Hassan-Nahoum, for showing courage by not abandoning her 70-year-old patient when she had a choice to leave and save her own life.

“Despite having a chance to flee the Hamas terror attacks, Angelyn showed unbelievable humanity and loyalty by remaining by Nira’s side during the violence, resulting in both of them being brutally murdered by Hamas. Unimaginable honor in the face of evil,” she said in a post on X last month.
