Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region

Low pressure off the northeastern coast of Japan will bring wet weather to portions of the nation Thursday, but cloud cover and generally dry conditions are anticipated for much of the southern half of the country.

More rain is expected in southeastern China and along the Taiwan Strait, but the precipitation won’t penetrate very far inland. The Chinese interior will be generally clear with cool to cold temperatures. Northeastern China will especially feel the chill as the jet stream drops over the region.

To the south, typical seasonal showers are anticipated throughout the Philippines and Indonesia. A southern Indian Ocean storm will pass by Australia’s southwest coast, sending a front into the nation’s interior and bringing rain to the western Outback. The east coast of Australia will also see precipitation around Sydney and north to about Brisbane.
