MANILA, Philippines — Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will visit the Philippines this week to reaffirm the close ties of Tokyo and Manila, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Tuesday.

Citing the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the PCO said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will officially welcome Kishida during ceremonies at the Malacañan Palace on Friday, November 3. Kishida will be in the country until November 4.

“The two leaders will hold a bilateral meeting to discuss areas of mutual concern such as political, security, economic and development cooperation, as well as people-to-people ties,” DFA said as quoted in the PCO statement.

The PCO said Kishida and Marcos are expected to exchange views on regional and international issues, and reiterate the Philippine-Japan relations.

Marcos visited Japan in February and had a bilateral meeting with Kishida, an Imperial Audience with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, and met with various business leaders and investors there.
