MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte extended her sympathies to the people in Israel who have died as the country’s ongoing war with Hamas intensifies.
She expressed her sentiment in a meeting with Israel’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Ilan Fluss.
Duterte and Fluss met at the Department of Education in Pasig City.
“Tinanggap natin sa opisina ng Department of Education si His Excellency Ilan Fluss, Ambassador ng State of Israel, sa ating bansa noong isang araw,” Duterte said on a Facebook post.
(We received in the Office of the Department of Education His Excellency Ilan Fluss, Ambassador of Israel in our country, the other day.)
“Pinaabot ko ang aking pakikidalamhati sa lahat ng mga nasawi sa patuloy na pagtutunggali,” she added.
(I sympathized with those who passed away during the ongoing clashes.)
The Vice President also thanked Fluss for Israel’s recognition of Filipinos killed in the conflict.
“Patuloy tayong sumuporta para sa mapayapang solusyon na makakatulong sa pangmatagalang kapayapaan dahil ang pangunahing biktima ay ang mga inosenteng sibilyan, lalo na ang mga bata,” she noted.
(We continue to support a peaceful solution to help find lasting peace because the primary victims are innocent civilians, especially the children.)
Duterte had previously called for a ceasefire in the Middle East.
