MANILA, Philippines — A team of Filipino students is now set to present their digital platform application in Paris, France, after becoming one of the four winning teams of UNESCO’s Fifth Global Media and Information Literacy Youth Hackathon.
The Filipino team’s name is “AGOS”, which stands for “Achieving Global Oneness Through Synergy,” according to their video pitch for the event.
AGOS submitted their concept called “Media Information Literacy Empowerment Space,” or simply “MILES”–a digital platform aimed at increasing media and information literacy.
The team consisted of Centro Escolar University students Marie Francheska Hermosa, Charlene Grace Macapagal, and Alexene Faith Tomate; Lyceum of the Philippines University student Ian Lumanog; and the University of Sto. Tomas student Kurt Alec Mira.
Hermosa, one of the project team leads, shared UNESCO’s dispatch dated October 10 online, announcing their win in the hackathon.
According to UNESCO’s message, among the 96 entries from 40 different countries received by the organization, the jury members were impressed with AGOS’ quality of work.
The team is set to present MILES at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, France, on November 14 as part of the organization’s Youth Forum.
Hermosa told INQUIRER.net over the phone on Friday that they will be sending Macapagal and Lumanog to present their project.
Hermosa also said there will be potential investors in the forum, according to UNESCO.
The Global Media and Information Literacy Youth Hackathon is part of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week Youth Agenda Forum.
