China continues to destroy its image in international stage – AFP

Following its “dangerous maneuvers” a few nautical miles away from Pag-asa (Thitu) Island, China is only destroying its own image in the international stage if it will continue its similar actions within the Philippine territory, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said on Monday.

Col. Medel Aguilar, spokesperson for the AFP, said the military leadership has instructed its troops near Pag-asa Island and nearby areas to be “firm and strong in protecting our people and what belongs to them.”

The Philippine Navy’s BRP Benguet (LS-507) made radio challenges to a Chinese Navy ship when it shadowed the Philippine ship and attempted to cross its bow with the closest point of approach at 350 yards, according to the military.

Aguilar explained it was the Chinese warship that later changed its course after the series of challenges issued by the Philippine Navy.

“Still, the act of deliberately attempting to cross the path of our vessel is irresponsible and unprofessional,” Aguilar said. INQ
