MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday lamented the deaths of two Filipino nationals in the Israel-Hamas conflict, condemning the “terror and violence” that resulted in the killings of civilians.
Marcos made the pronouncement after Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo earlier confirmed that two Filipinos were killed in the ongoing conflict in Israel.
“My heart is heavy upon hearing confirmation of the deaths of two Filipinos in Israel. The Philippines condemns these killings and stands firmly against the ongoing terror and violence,” Marcos said in a statement.
According to Marcos, the Philippine government will remain resolute in the pursuit of lasting peace in line with the United Nations (UN) resolutions and international laws.
He then committed to sending support to affected overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and the Filipino community affected by the conflict.
The President previously instructed the Department of Migrant Workers and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration to locate and account for all OFWs and their families in Israel and to work closely with the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Israeli Migrant Workers Office to ensure their safety.
