MANILA, Philippines—Laos has joined the international community in giving aid to families displaced by Tropical Storm “Sendong” in the Visayas and Mindanao.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said Lao Deputy Foreign Minister Sounthone Xayachack turned over a check for $15,000 to Ambassador Maria Lumen Isleta in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Vientiane on Friday.
“Deputy Foreign Minister Xayachack expressed the Lao government and people’s sympathies on the loss of lives and damage to properties that the Filipino people suffered from this natural disaster,” the DFA said.
In response, Ambassador Isleta conveyed the deep appreciation of the Philippine government to the Lao government’s generous gesture and expression of solidarity during this challenging period.
