MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese man wanted in his country for illegal gambling was arrested last Monday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
The bureau identified the suspect as Jiang Ning who was allegedly involved in setting up a gambling group that controls 14 gambling platforms, illegally profiting in his country and the Philippines.
His group reportedly operated from 2014 to 2021, with more than 100,000 Chinese involved in their gambling activities.
According to the BI, Jiang attempted to board a flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, when they noticed a derogatory record on him in their system.
The bureau said they have confirmed that the suspect is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice. Interpol defines red notice as “a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.”
An individual is placed under the Red Notice upon the request of the member country or international tribunal.
“A warrant is out for his arrest issued by the Qijiang District Public Security Bureau of Chongqing Municipality. He was charged for opening a casino in violation of the Criminal Law of China and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison,” BI stated on its official Facebook page on Tuesday.
Jiang was referred to the BI’s Legal Division. The bureau also noted that he will be charged with undesirability and will remain in their Warden Facility in Bicutan, Taguig while waiting for his deportation proceedings.
