DFA: No Filipino among reported dead during Libya flooding

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said there was no Filipino among those reported dead during the massive flooding in Libya brought about by storm Daniel.

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said there was no Filipino among those reported dead during the massive flooding in Libya brought about by storm Daniel.

“There are no reported Filipino casualties. The Filipinos were relocated to higher grounds by the hospital management,” said Foreign Affairs spokesperson Teresita Daza in a text message to reporters on Wednesday.

There are around 1,100 Filipinos in Eastern Libya. Of this number, 90 are residing in the areas badly hit by storm Daniel.

According to Daza, the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli, Libya has reached out to the Filipino community leaders in the area. It likewise continues to monitor developments regarding the disaster.

At least 2,000 people are feared dead due to the massive flooding, reports say.
