PH is ‘Asia’s Leading Dive Destination’ again, says DOT
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines was named “Asia’s Leading Dive Destination” for the fifth consecutive year at the World Travel Awards (WTA) Asia & Oceania Gala Ceremony 2023 held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, on September 6.
This was announced Thursday by the Department of Tourism, with its chief Christina Garcia Frasco saying the honor reflects the country’s commitment to sustainable tourism development and collaboration with tourism stakeholders.
“The Philippines’ fifth consecutive win as Asia’s Leading Dive Destination further affirms the unparalleled beauty and megabiodiversity of our country loved by divers and tourists all over the world,” she said in a statement.
“From our ridges to our reefs, you will never run out of reasons to Love the Philippines,” the DOT Secretary added.

Article continues after this advertisementBased on the WTA website, the Philippines’ winning streak started in 2019, with Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand as consistent competitors.

WTA was established in 1993 by an organization based in London. It acknowledges, rewards, and celebrates the success of the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries.
The Philippines was also hailed as the Best Dive Destination during the Diving, Resort, and Travel Show in Malaysia last February, beating Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, and Maldives.
