MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reiterated the Philippines’ concern over North Korea’s launching of intercontinental ballistic missiles, saying that the country must adhere to the United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolutions.
Marcos made the comment during the 43rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit, which was attended by South Korean (ROK) President Yoon Suk Yeol.
“We underscore the need for the DPRK to fully comply with all UN Security Council Resolutions. We also affirm our support for the principles embodied in the ROK’s audacious initiative that aims to achieve a denuclearized DPRK, an essential component for sustainable peace and prosperity in the Korean Peninsula, in Northeast Asia, and the world,” Marcos said.
DPRK or Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, better known as North Korea, has conducted a series of ballistic missile tests around the Korean Peninsula, alarming neighboring countries Japan and South Korea.

Marcos underscored the Philippines’ support for security initiatives between Asean and South Korea, such as the Korean Solidarity Initiative
“In particular, we welcome the enhancing policy dialogue on maritime affairs with the ROK under the initiative to contribute to the overall enhancement of Asean-ROK comprehensive security cooperation,” said Marcos.
In the same speech, Marcos thanked South Korea for its support in the South China Sea territorial disputes, as well as its assistance in the oil spill disaster in Oriental Mindoro.
