KUALA LUMPUR—President Marcos met with the Filipino community here on Tuesday night soon after arriving for a three-day state visit beginning Wednesday.

Speaking before a crowd of about 300 mostly Filipino overseas workers at EQ Hotel, Mr. Marcos said this occasion was his opportunity to thank overseas Filipinos for their support to his tandem with Vice President Sara Duterte in the 2022 elections.

He said his travels to countries around the world are mainly aimed at securing investments for the Philippines.

“So because we are aiming for bigger investments, we have been going out of the country and trying to meet with friends to invite them to invest in the Philippines, mainly on agriculture,” the President said, adding that his administration has set the stage for an economic environment of lower prices of goods and tempered inflation.

Reputation of OFWs

“We have friends who are ready to help, and we are telling them that the Philippines is now in a better state and with improved systems which will allow for a better Philippines,” he said.

Mr. Marcos said his visit is also aimed at fostering stronger ties with Malaysia and ensuring the protection of about 322,000 Filipino workers here.

He also commended the good reputation of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) among their foreign employers.

OFWs, he said, are often described as hard-working, diligent and efficient.

“That has been a constant: employers are so grateful for the service that our OFWs have been giving which made our lives better,” the President said, citing his conversations with foreign employers. INQ
