MANILA, Philippines — Nine members of the Philippine Global Explorers (PGE), a global community of Filipino world travelers, joined the Most Traveled People’s Shusha-2023 Expedition and were given the chance to visit tourism destinations in Azerbaijan and walk through the country’s history.

In a statement, PGE said the expedition, which was privately sponsored along with the Azerbaijan government, brought 30 travelers from across the world including nine Filipino delegates to Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh, a landlocked region in the South Caucasus, last month.

“The expedition allowed the participants to witness the beauty of the Caucasus Mountains and visit landmine-infested areas. The world travelers watched a demining operation and had the chance to ride tanks in one of the military camps they visited,” PGE said.

“They saw the ruins resulting from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the remarkable rebuilding and development undertaken by the Azerbaijanis,” it added.

Aside from these, PGE said that its members also met with the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev and discussed the subject of Filipinos’ difficulty in obtaining Azerbaijan visas.

The group said raising the issue will help them facilitate “the entry of Filipinos into other countries for tourism purposes,” adding that this aligns with its goal to continue participating in travel and tourism projects geared toward education, leadership, partnership, advocacy, and international relations.
