In assuming his new post, he will serve as the right-hand man of San Jose Bishop Oscar Cantu.

CBCP explained the vicar general is the second highest-ranking position in diocesan governance, right next to the bishop.

Ligot was born and raised in Laoag city.

He is the nephew of late Bishop Victorino Ligot of San Fernando, La Union.

He was ordained priest for the Diocese of Laoag in Saint Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican by Saint Pope John Paul II in June 1992.

Ligot started his ministry at the San Jose diocese’s tribunal, first as the “defender of the bond” and later, as a judge.

He was also made a pastor of Saint Lawrence the Martyr Parish in Santa Clara, a city near San Jose in 2005.

Then, he was appointed Judicial Vicar in a concurrent capacity in 2008.
