MANILA, Philippines — The government of Switzerland pledged its support for peacekeeping efforts in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) after a peace treaty was enacted with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), according to Malacañang on Wednesday.

Swiss Ambassador to the Philippines Alain Gaschen had called President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and told him that the country recognized the decades-long challenges in the regions.

“I know from the different ministries they have basis to support addressing those issues,” Gaschen said in the Palace’s statement.

Marcos Jr. assured the Swiss envoy that the government and BARMM are working hard to maintain the peace.

“I think with the Philippines and Switzerland, we have had always a very good close relationship in many, many ways. And I cannot forget the involvement that the Swiss government had in chairing the Bangsamoro Transitional Council and that was a very important role that you played in the success of what we are now continuing to implement in terms of the peace process in southern Philippines, in BARMM,” the President said.

Marcos Jr. reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure BARMM’s success, vowing to listen to all parties involved to avoid violence.
