MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. was invited by envoys of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Dubai for the 2023 United Nations climate change conference in December 2023, according to Malacañang Palace on Wednesday.

According to the Malacañang, UAE Ambassador H.E. Mohamed Obaid Salem Alqataam Alzaabi and the envoys extended the invitation on behalf of their government during a visit to Marcos on Tuesday, where they spoke about the Philippines’ green projects.

“The UAE official also relayed the invitation for President Marcos to attend the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference or the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to be held in December this year at the Expo City in Dubai,” said the Palace in a statement.

The Palace said that the UAE has also expressed its wishes to introduce a platform knowledge program to the Philippines, which was launched in 2018.

“This program is to exchange information (between our) countries. We have more than 40 countries now in this program. It’s a government exchange program by the Office of the Prime Minister,” the UAE envoy told President Marcos.

Should Marcos approve the program, there will be a memorandum of understanding between the two countries.

“The President has directed Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin to draft an MOU on this, saying that he is looking forward to signing an agreement with the UAE.
