MANILA, Philippines — Twenty three Filipinos from the strife-torn Sudan are set to return to the Philippines, said the Philippine Embassy in Egypt announced on Monday.
The embassy said thirteen are already on their way home from Egypt while the ten others have a scheduled flight back to Manila.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Egypt are currently arranging return flights for 130 Filipino evacuees still in Egypt, while the Department of Migrant Workers are arranging one for 47 more others..
Fierce fighting broke out in Sudan following a power struggle between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces on April 15.
The United Nations said more than 512 people may have have been killed during the conflict, with 4,200 more wounded.
