MANILA, Philippines — A political analyst said Friday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s visit to the United Kingdom (UK) and a possible meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is a “very good time” for him to communicate and ask for help on some of the country’s challenges.
Director of Local Government Development Institute Dr. Froilan Calilung said that some of these challenges include climate change mitigation, request for technical assistance on humanitarian assistance, relief operations, and peace and development processes in the Philippines.
“This will be a very good time also for the President to lay down some of the challenges that we have, and I hope that the United Kingdom will also be ready to address it or help us along the lines of these concerns,” said Calilung, in the Laging Handa Public Briefing.
In addition to this, Marcos Jr. and Sunak may talk about several other concerns, such as the Philippine economy and how we can “anchor ourselves with the current investment climate” in the UK and Europe.
“And who knows, we might also be able to forge some investment or business ties with them, and linkages would also again be made because of this event,” said the political analyst.
Calilung also said that it is a good chance for the Philippines also to show what it is capable of.
