MANILA, Philippines—Foreign aid continued to pour for victims of storm “Sendong” as the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) handed a $150,000 check to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman said.
Also on Thursday afternoon, Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe turned over $14 million worth of relief supplies to Soliman at the DSWD office.
The supplies included water tanks, generators, cord reel, polyester tanks, tents, sleeping mattresses, bed sheets and blankets.
Soliman said the United States, Spain, and United Nations agencies, among others, had also pledged monetary aid and provisions.
“We’re expecting tents from the UNHCR (UN High Commissioner for Refugees). Unicef (UN Children’s Fund) had been giving us tents and hygiene kits, and the World Food Program, energy biscuits and rice,” she said by phone.
