Two death row cases against overseas Filipino workers were overturned in 2022, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), but 81 Filipinos are still facing capital punishment. The two Filipinos in Saudi Arabia were originally sentenced to death in 2022 over an illicit affair. But the death sentences of the two were commutated to nine years in prison. The department did not reveal the identities of the two Filipinos. DFA data also showed that 135 overseas Filipinos were acquitted with legal help from the government. —JACOB LAZARO
