AquaSports Tourism launched with the women leaders at the Regional Zampen Open Water Swim Circuit

The Hall of famer island of Sibugay Province, Buluan Island, tagged as the Best Managed Protective Area in the country, hosted its first ever regional event this weekend courtesy of the exciting and breathtaking Zampen Open Water Swim Circuit.

Along with sports tourism , the Zamboanga Peninsula Open Water  swim circuit is considered as one of the biggest festivities in the island this pre-summer season, with the 4-leg swim circuit packed with women-led activities and initiatives.

The Zamboanga Peninsula women community took part as they we’re  equipped by the Department of Tourism with signifucant training on hospitality and other livelihood activities that would help uplift the lives of their families and the community.

The historic event showcased the culture of the Sibugay province with its community closely working with the organizers of the event.

The strong, beautiful, and inspiring women leaders of Mindanao worked hand in hand to make the event vibrant and exciting for all the participants and spectators. The action-packed and colorful event attracted visitors and spectators, including foreign guests who wanted to experience more of the island.

Usec Myra Paz Valderrosa- Abubacar exhibited grace and exceptional showmanship with the cultural dance of the Subanen tribe as she personally assisted the team in delivering an amazing event.

On the other hand, the honorable Gov. Anne K. Hofer passionately inspired the guests and participants with her heartwarming message and support.  She brought with her 10 international guests from Belgium and the Netherlands. The European tourists were part of a caving expedition organized as part of the island’s tourism program.

The Governor’s Scholars Performing Artists also performed Subanen, Christian, and Muslim dances that makes the event even more festive w the longest Oyster grill in the Region.

RD Dara May Cataluna extended her support as well as she made sure that the event was seamless. The excitement of holding a one-of-a-kind national event in her very own hometown of Ipil, Sibugay Province was evident in her hands on service leading the Filipino brand of hospitality and service excellence as she personally handed out the medals to the winners along with Usec Myra Paz Valdrosa Abubacar and Asec Rica Bueno.
Among the strong finishers is an International swimmer from Vietnam  competing with our strong athletes from different regions.

According to the organizers, the Zampen swim circuit is not just about sports but also about promoting women empowerment.

The groundbreaking event also aims to promote gender equality and encourages women to participate in open water swimming, an activity that is traditionally dominated by men. The organizers hope to inspire women to challenge themselves and break barriers, both in sports and in society.

“We believe that women should be given the same opportunities as men in sports and in all aspects of life,” Regional Director Dara May emphasized.

Asec Maria Rica Bueno emphasized that they want to reinforce the Filipino brand of service excellence in this kind of tourism event rooted in the 7 M’s of core values that Filipinos are widely known for: Malikhain, Makatao, Makakalikasan, Makabansa, Masayahin, May Bayanihan, and May Pag-asa. And the recent leg of the Zampen Open Water Swim Circuit definitely embodied all these core values.
