EU Parliament human rights subpanel set to visit PH on Feb. 22-24
MANILA, Philippines — The European Parliament (EP) subcommittee on human rights will visit the Philippines on February 22 to 24, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Monday.
The DFA accepted the EP’s request as the latter signified the expanding talks and cooperation between the Philippines and the European Union (EU).
“The Philippines’ relationships with the European Union and its members have steadily expanded across political, economic and security areas. These relationships are founded on mutual interest and shared values of democracy and freedom, rule of law, peace and stability and human rights,” the DFA said in a statement.
The agency added that the EP subpanel’s visit “is taking place in the context of the open and regular engagement between the Philippines and the EU on human rights, and the shared aim to further constructive dialogue and cooperation on human rights.”
Six members of the EP will lead the delegation going to Manila, according to the EU Delegation in the Philippines.
