French Ambassador to the Philippines Michèle Boccoz on Friday said that Malacañang has accepted their invitation for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to visit the European country possibly within the first half of this year. Boccoz said the planned trip would be a “good opportunity,” considering that the last official visit of a Philippine president to their country was nine years ago. “So, this is a very important step for us and we are working very closely with Philippine authorities in preparing the visit,” Boccoz said. Boccoz said the state visit would tackle maritime issues, energy, food security and climate change, among others. Boccoz said that a high-level meeting is scheduled on March 8 to further discuss areas of cooperation and other matters to be taken up during the state visit. —Alden M. Monzon
