Wet weather is anticipated across China on Sunday, while eastern Asia will see relatively dry conditions. A low pressure system will continue strengthening as it moves eastward through southern China and pulls moisture and energy in from the South China Sea.
Expect widespread scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop from the South China Sea to Chongqing and Xian. Hong Kong will see a chance of thunderstorms with highs in the upper 20s degrees Celsius, while Shanghai will have a rainy day with highs in the mid-20s C.
To the north, high pressure extends into northern China from Mongolia and eastern Russia. This allows for mostly sunny skies and dry conditions in Beijing with highs in the upper 20s C. The ridge extends eastward and brings dry weather to countries surrounding the Sea of Japan. Expect Seoul and Tokyo to see a few patchy clouds with highs in the mid-20s C.
Tropical Cyclone Four has developed in the North Pacific Ocean, just southeast of the Philippines. This system will continue intensifying on Sunday and may reach category 1 strength with winds between 74 and 95 miles per hour (64 to 82 knots). Expect periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds to reach into the Philippines as this system continues tracking northeastward. Maximum wave height will be near 15 feet (4.6 meters).
In Australia, a low pressure system moves from the Great Australian Bight and into Victoria and New South Wales. This system will bring widespread scattered showers with it, while the rest of the country will remain dry as high pressure dominates. Sydney will see increasingly cloudy skies with highs in the lower 20s C, as this system approaches, while Melbourne will see a chance of thunderstorms and rainy conditions throughout the day with highs in the upper teens C.
