ARES Merchants Philippines Inc. launched its Maritime Scholarship and Job Placement Program in partnership with John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation Inc.-Bacolod. Being very connected to the shipping industry, ARES has decided to focus its CSR efforts towards developing local seafarers to ultimately aid in nation building.
The foundation aims to provide scholarships and international shipping company job placements, ensuring our beneficiaries not only education, but good livelihood opportunities upon graduation. To slowly change a gender biased, male dominated industry ARES pledged to support around 20 incoming third and fourth year top students both female and male as recipients.
The MOU signing event took place at JBLCF Campus led by Michael Marquez (ARES Maritime Scholarship Foundation Chairman) and other Foundation Board Members, Napoleon Pefianco, Atty. Pinky Ocampo together with Engr. Roberto Neal Sobrejuanite (JBLCFI Administrator). Captain Jolyn Tay (Deputy Port Master in Singapore) one of the first female captains of VLCC, is also a member of the Board. The said program would not be possible without the support of ARES’ generous partners; Stolt-Nielsen, Maersk Tankers, Glory Ship, MT Maritime, Quincannon, Steem 1960, SBS Ship Brokers, Nova Ship and Apical Group.
