PH-Australia bilateral talks explore agriculture, renewable energy cooperation

BANGKOK, Thailand — Agriculture and renewable energy were among the possible areas of cooperation that were identified during the bilateral meeting between the Philippines and Australia.

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had a dialogue on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday.

“We have many, many connections that we, I think, we can strengthen and promote further: The areas of agriculture, the areas of renewable energy,” Marcos shared in a statement.

Meanwhile, Albanese told Marcos that he supports the latter’s position on the need to respond to the climate crisis.

“In your closing comments in the Plenary Session that there was a common thing that you and I have to take action on climate change, and we may deal with that. I’m sure that we can have great cooperation,” the prime minister told the chief executive.

Joining Marcos in the meeting were former president and Senior Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, among others.

Marcos participated in the Apec Summit in Thailand and will return to the Philippines on Saturday night after a four-day visit.
