NEW YORK CITY — In their return to this US state for a working visit after 25 years, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos snuck in some time to watch a concert and a broadway show.
After a “very hectic” schedule on the first day of his working visit here, the President took a breather with the First Lady by watching an Eric Clapton concert, a reliable source disclosed Friday.
The source said Marcos went to the concert, which was held at the Madison Square Garden, after meeting with the Filipino community in the New Jersey Performing Arts Center last September 18.
RJ Nieto, known as the vlogger Thinking Pinoy, posted photo of him with the President, saying Marcos was able to “catch the last thirty minutes” of the Eric Clapton concert, after a “very hectic” first working visit day.
“Let him have a bit of a break tonight because he’ll barely get any sleep tomorrow until he goes back to the Philippines,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, September 21, First Lady Liza took the time to watch a broadway show.
The Malacañang source said the First Lady watched the 2 p.m. show of “Into the Woods” at the St. James Theater, saying Liza Marcos was delighted by the show.
Nieto also posted a photo of him with the First Lady and actress Dawn Zulueta, saying they were able to sneak in some time to watch a broadway show.
“May kaunting free time sina FL (First Lady) and Dawn this afternoon so isiningit na muna ang isang broadway show,” the vlogger wrote.
(The First Lady and Dawn had a free time this afternoon so they went to watch a broadway show.)
Zulueta is the wife of Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., the Philippines’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and close friend of the President.
Marcos earlier said he and the First Lady were elated to be back in New York after 25 years, saying the Big Apple is a “special” place for them because this was where their love story began.
The President said he met Liza, who was then a lawyer in New York, when she visited a friend who was the lawyer handling the case of former First Lady Imelda.
“Nung ’86, si Liza ay abogada na, nagkita kami, nagkakilala kami in court habang hinihintay ko ung kaso ng mother ko, siya naman ay bumisita dahil kaibigan niya yung isang abogado,” he said.
(In ’86, when Liza was a lawyer, we met in court when I was waiting for the resolution of my mother’s case while she was visiting a friend of hers.)
Marcos even quipped that their firstborn, Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos, should be thankful to New York since he owed his life to the US state.
“Kaya Sandro magpasalamat ka sa New York; kung hindi sa New York eh ‘di wala ka,” he said.
(So, Sandro, you should thank New York because if it was not for it, you would not have been born.)
During his working visit to New York, the President met with several American business executives, spoke before the United Nations 77th General Assembly, met with US President Joe Biden and Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
