Overseas Filipino Workers and their families based in General Santos City and Iloilo and were recently treated to a homecoming celebration by Sun Life Philippines.
The event served as a means to strengthen family ties amid long periods spent apart, especially for those who weren’t able to come home during the lockdowns at the height of the pandemic.
The GenSan leg, held at Greenleaf Hotel, and the Iloilo leg, held at District 21 Hotel, were both well attended, with over a hundred in attendance at each staging. Games were held, and prizes such as dinner and KTV vouchers were given away. Meanwhile, to help families achieve their financial goals together and eventually enable the OFW to come home for good, Sun Life also invited top personal finance speaker Randell Tiongson to share tips on how they every family member can contribute to the goal. Their Sun Life advisors were likewise present to assist them in reviewing their financial portfolio.
“The studies we have conducted show that it is common for OFWs and their families to cover all bases in preparing for the OFW’s departure. However, they tend to overlook the need to prepare for when the OFW finally comes home for good,” Sun Life Client Segment Marketing Head Cary Casipit said. “Sun Life is here to help them make the necessary preparations in terms of their finances. This way, they will be able to make the most of their time abroad, plan their homecoming, and continue to live comfortably thereafter.”
All these are covered in Sun Life’s “Shine, Pinoy Overseas!” program. It engages OFWs and their families through financial planning sessions, product bundles, and special events, ensuring that financial security can be a shared goal within the family. Sun Life also ensures that its advisors are equipped to handle the unique realities of an OFW family. This is done through a continuous training programs featuring various experts.
“Our OFWs contribute much to our economy, benefitting us all in different ways. It’s a must that we also help them secure their family’s future,” Casipit said. “With ‘Shine, Pinoy Overseas!’, we look forward to being of service to them.”
Sun Life’s homecoming celebrations will continue this September, with stops in Antipolo, Surigao, and Bacolod. OFW clients in the said areas who wish to join are encouraged to connect with their Sun Life advisor to secure their slots. Meanwhile, those interested to know more about “Shine, Pinoy Overseas!” may visit www.sunlife.co/ShinePinoy.
