“I’m really excited and thankful that I’m given this opportunity to share our culture, specifically Marinduque’s Moryonan,” Viray told INQUIRER.net.

As one of these alumni, Viray will represent the country in the CDFF through his film, “Ella, a female Morion.” Supported by a team from the Likha-an Resource Center, the film features Ella Mazon, who took up a mask in the male-dominated Moryonan in Marinduque.

“I would like the viewers to pay attention to…the story of Ella, a Longina (the locals would call her) or a woman who portrayed Longinus in the male-dominated tradition of Moriones. To hear a woman’s narrative is actually rare, and this platform could be our chance to share it,” Viray said.

Viray will also present an academic paper and participate in a round-table discussion at the Choreomundus Alumni Conference and Festival.
